We believe that all persons with disabilities are able to not only live but thrive in the communities of their choice. We are one of the three Independent Living Centers in Idaho, and there are currently over 340 Independent Living Centers nationwide. The first Independent Living Center was created in the 1970’s, in California. Ed Robert’s who is known as the Father of the Independent Living movement, had a crucial role and was an advocate for persons with disabilities to ensure they had the same access and opportunities. Today, we still support the original vision of Independent Living for persons with disabilities. Independent Living is based on the belief in freedom, overcoming barriers, living with dignity, and independence. Every person has the right to make their own choices and to control the decisions in their lives and Life will support you in meeting all your independence goals.
